PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) – The same storm system that brought deadly tornadoes to parts of the Midwest and the South has now dumped as much as 20 inches of rain on the Florida Panhandle in just 24 hours. And that’s left people stranded in cars and homes, waiting for rescuers to find a way to reach them.
The storms have now been responsible for at least 36 deaths.
Some people whose homes have flooded have had to climb up into the attic. They say they can’t send rescuers out on some 911 calls because there’s no way to reach people who’ve been cut off by flooded roads.
