Two injured in weekend rollover accident near Liberty

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department a one-vehicle rollover crash that happened in the town of Liberty on Saturday at 1:15 a.m left two women with severe injuries.

The Sheriff’s Department says Daisy Amber Evans, 39, Westby, was driving eastbound on Hwy. 56 negotiating a curve just east of Co. SS when she lost control of her vehicle.

The vehicle went off the road and began to overturn. The vehicle continued overturning while it came back onto the highway and eventually the vehicle came to rest on its roof in a ditch.

Evans was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle 40 feet west of where the vehicle came to rest. A passenger in the vehicle, Nancy R. Joseph, 42, Viroqua, was wearing her seatbelt and was trapped in the vehicle while it was overturned. The vehicle began smoking and Joseph was removed from the vehicle through the driver’s side window.

Evans was taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse by Med-Link Air. Joseph was taken by ambulance to Gundersen Lutheran with severe injuries.

Assisting at the scene were the Viola Fire Department, Viola First Responders, Viroqua Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department.
