Carter was a member of the Liberty Pole United Methodist Church and was active in the community especially in the agricultural industry.  He served on the Town of Franklin board for over 30 years and was a 4-H leader for 56 years.  Farming was his passion and he loved the Big Brown Cow.  He showed Brown Swiss cattle at many local, state, and national shows and fairs.

Carter is survived by his children Roger, Gary “Ole” (Janet), Dennis, Amy (Lloyd) Hardy, and Kent; grandchildren Syneve (Trevor) Hagen, Lars Thompson, Signe (Brian) Mikkelson, Leif Thompson, Shana, Allison and Dalton Hardy and Allyson Hastings; great-grandchildren Tavin Hagen and Cade Mikkelson; and brothers Layton (Pat), and Orland (Doris) Thompson.

Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua.  Friends may also call on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
