OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) – The Experimental Aircraft Association is bringing together World War II vets that represent each of the 10 B-17 bomber crew positions.

The Wisconsin vets will take a local ride in the Aluminum Overcast Monday. It’s as a promotion for the national tour of the B-17.

The positions include pilot, co-pilot, navigator, bombardier, flight engineer, radio operator and gunners.

According to the EAA, as the vets grow older a gathering of a complete B-17 crew becomes nearly impossible.

The plane was built as World War II was ending so it never saw combat. EAA has owned the plane since 1981 and it’s one of the last remaining airworthy B-17s.

It tours more than 40 cities every year. This year’s tour starts April 18 in Mississippi.
