It may be spring, but a late season storm is showing winter is not quite done with Wisconsin yet.

The National Weather Service has issued storm warnings and watches for much of the northern half of the state through late Friday night, with up to 17 inches of snow expected to fall on the far northwest corner of the state. Several inches of snow are also possible down through the central regions of the state, along with up to a quarter inch of ice and wind gusts of up to 30 miles an hour.

Tod Pritchard with Wisconsin Emergency Management says the snow will likely be heavy. That, combined with high winds, could lead to the risk of power outages as the weather pattern moves through. Road conditions could also deteriorate quickly, which Pritchard says is a good reason to checks the state’s 511 website before heading out.

Southern parts of the state will likely see rain, although it’s not expected to be enough to prompt any concerns about flooding.
