The 12th annual Reality Daze will be held on March 23, 2014, for Vernon County and surrounding schools. About 400 students will participate at Westby Schools field house, Westby.
The event is funded largely by a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation. The schools participating also support the event by funding the transportation of the students, allowing staff time to coordinate the event and support of substitute staff in the schools.
Numerous area businesses, service agencies, and volunteers donated their time and staff. The event could not be held without this support. Approximately 75 volunteers work with students at the various booths providing purchasing information and financial counseling directly to the students.
The Reality Daze event is an interactive financial program designed to introduce money management skills to students. Students choose and study a career in advance. When they arrive at the event they are given a life scenario to set the stage for their participation. The event provides students an opportunity to connect with community business leaders and volunteers as well as learn about and exercise budgeting skills.
Ten schools will again participate in the event. They are Brookwood High School, Cashton, De Soto, Hillsboro, La Farge, Westby Area Schools, Kickapoo Area School District, North Crawford, Viroqua Schools and Cornerstone Christian Academy.
