MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Mike McCabe, the leader of a campaign finance watchdog group that maintains a frequently visited database of political contributions, is leaving his post at the end of the year.

McCabe said Thursday that after 15 years of leading the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign he felt it was time to move on. McCabe says the decision to leave was his and he has no other job lined up.

McCabe is only the second director in the history of the independent group that was founded in 1995.

The 53-year-old McCabe has been a frequent critic of the power of money in politics and his group is frequently relied upon for its tallies of campaign spending. His work has also drawn the ire of politicians and those who donate to them.
