HILLSBORO, Wis. – More than 18,000 students gain leadership skills and community involvement through the Wisconsin FFA. In Vernon County, Hillsboro FFA students will now have more opportunities thanks to America’s Farmers Grow CommunitiesSM.

Grow Communities gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local nonprofit organizations. Kent Barnes was the winning farmer in Vernon County. He recognized the need for funding school and community projects and directed the donation to Hillsboro FFA.

“The Hillsboro FFA is one of the best organizations in the community for building leaders,” Barnes said. “Agriculture is a huge part of my life, and I’m glad to say all three of my kids went through the Hillsboro FFA program.”

The organization will use the $2,500 to complete a nature trail and purchase tools for the ag shop.

“This donation gives us the opportunity to further the students’ community involvement and leadership skills,” said Paul Marshall, Hillsboro FFA advisor.

In a ceremony held on February 22 at the Hillsboro High School, Barnes got the chance to present the Hillsboro FFA with the $2,500 donation.
