NEW LONDON, Wis. (AP) – Cheese producer Saputo has announced plans to close four plants, including one in New London.
The Montreal-based company says it is consolidating production into other Saputo facilities to improve efficiency.
In addition to the New London plant, the other facilities closing are in Hancock, Maryland, and Wetaskiwin and Glenwood in Alberta, Canada.
A total of about 180 employees will be affected. They will be given severance pay and help in finding other work, and some may have the chance to move to other Saputo plants.
The closings are set to begin in May and be finished by December 2015.
