The Sparta Police Department, in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, is notifying the public of the intended release of Clay G. Slater, to the community. Slater is a registered sex offender and will be staying on Water Street in the downtown area, in the City of Sparta. His intended release date is April 1, 2014.
Slater was convicted in Monroe County of Second Degree Sexual Assault of a Child in 2001. According to police in the past, his victims have been pre-teen and teen female relatives and acquaintances. Slater’s activities will be monitored by various forms of electronic devices. He is not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs and is not allowed in bars, taverns or liquor stores. No unsupervised contact with minors.
police also say given the fact that Slater has not been able to secure employment or obtain permanent housing, he may be seen wandering in public areas. Community members should stay alert to his activities and report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement.
Police also emphasized the release of this information is intended to keep the public informed of sexual offenders who are residing in the community and cannot be used to threaten, harass or otherwise intimidate Mr. Slater.
