LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) – A second Republican has entered the race to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Kind in western Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District.

Chris Anderson, a former aide to Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, announced his campaign on Thursday. The La Crosse Tribune reported Friday that Anderson says his campaign will focus on the growing federal debt, President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law and lingering unemployment.

Republican Ken Van Doren, a retired building contractor and former Mauston City Council member, is also running.

The 28-year-old Anderson is a native of Barron and served in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. He joined Johnson’s staff in 2012.

Kind’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment. Kind has been in Congress since 1997.
