According to Sparta police at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5 officers were assisting the State Patrol with a traffic crash investigation on I-90 near the State Hwy. 27 on-ramp when one of the officers saw another vehicle in the ditch nearby. The officer went to investigate and found Demitreus Adams, 22, of La Crosse, attempting to pull the vehicle out of the ditch. Adams claimed the driver was his friend and had already left the scene, however, the officer noted there were no fresh tracks in the snow indicating that.
The officer continued to investigate and could hear noises coming from inside the trunk of the stuck car. Adams eventually admitted that his sister Desirae Adams, 24 from La Crosse, was hiding in the trunk because she was drunk. Officers attempted to persuade Adams out of the trunk but she refused and physically tried to hold the trunk lid shut. Eventually the officers were able to gain access and arrested Adams for OMVWI second offense and operating after suspension third offense. Adams was also cited for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, driving too fast for conditions, and operating without insurance.
Adams refused chemical testing and a search warrant for her blood was issued by a Monroe County Judge. Officers also reported that during the arrest Adams kicked two of the officers and faces additional charges of resisting arrest and battery to a law enforcement officer. Adams is currently being held in the Monroe County Jail.
