PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Pennsylvania Turnpike officials say eastbound lanes outside Philadelphia are expected to reopen Friday afternoon following a series of crashes involving tractor-trailers and scores of cars.
Turnpike spokesman Bill Capone says a miles-long traffic jam has cleared, and all but a few disabled cars and trucks have been towed.
The eastbound crashes were reported just after 8 a.m., in the middle of rush hour and about five hours after a storm that dropped a foot of snow in the area finally moved out. At least 30 people were injured.
