MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Want to officiate a wedding in Wisconsin?

If the state Assembly gets its way, you’d have to be at least 18 to do it.

The bill up for a vote on Thursday sets the age requirement while also making it easier for people from out of state to officiate.

The measure would remove the requirement that officials from out of state must obtain a letter from the church before the wedding.

While the bill has found bipartisan support, Republican Rep. Dan Knodl voted against it in committee.

Knodl took issue with the age requirement, saying that could prevent family members from officiating weddings in some cases.
