GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Alex Van Pelt may have one of the more unusual assistant coaching jobs in the NFL.
He might be the new quarterbacks coach of the Green Bay Packers, but Van Pelt knows there’s only so much wisdom he can impart when his top pupil is Aaron Rodgers.
Van Pelt says a main task is to continually challenge the 2011 NFL MVP, and make Rodgers think and learn things that may not have been emphasized for a while.
He’s not unfamiliar with Rodgers. Van Pelt is moving over after coaching running backs for two seasons in Green Bay. He aided in the emergence of Eddie Lacy, the 2013 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Van Pelt can also draw from his experience as a backup quarterback while playing in Buffalo.
