OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Firefighters in Omaha, Nebraska, have resumed their efforts today to recover the body of one of the two workers killed in an explosion that caused much of a manufacturing plant to collapse. Ten others were hospitalized with significant injuries.

A combination of strong winds, cold temperatures and dangerous rubble forced crews to suspend their efforts overnight.

Authorities don’t know exactly what happened. The city’s interim fire chief said he couldn’t say for sure that there was an explosion, but workers and other witnesses described hearing a blast.

Structural supports failed after the blast, and the second and third floors of the plant collapsed on top of the first floor.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the cause of the accident. The fire chief says it could take weeks. He noted that there were no hazardous chemicals at the International Nutrition plant, which makes nutritional products that are added to livestock and poultry feed.
