ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Students have returned to a Roswell middle school two days after authorities say a 12-year-old boy opened fire in a gym, sending two students to the hospital.
School officials said counselors will be available Thursday for Berrendo Middle School students to talk about the shooting that sent the southeastern New Mexico town into a panic. An 11-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl were hurt Tuesday and a school staffer suffered minor injuries.
State police says the suspected shooter was charged Wednesday with three juvenile counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
State Police Chief Pete Kassetas says it appeared the victims were chosen randomly.
Roswell Superintendent Tom Burris says counselors and teachers need to help students talk it out.
