Governor Scott Walker says he’s not in a big hurry to make a decision on the Menominee tribe’s proposed Kenosha casino.

During a stop in Wausau Wednesday, Walker told reporters “this project has been before the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the federal government for almost 20 years, and I’ve got considerable time as governor to take this matter up and fully consider the implications on it.”

Walker had initially set a 60 day period to review the Menominee’s proposal, but decided to extend his deadline indefinitely almost two weeks ago. The governor has said he’s looking for a “creative solution” to conflicts over the proposal. The Forest County Potawatomi and Ho-Chunk, which operate their own casinos, have been vocal critics of the Kenosha casino. They argue it would result in lost revenue for their own operations. Walker says those are “legitimate concerns” and he’s trying to find some way to balance the two out.
