A Reuters story says relief efforts have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for South Dakota ranchers affected by the early October blizzard in western South Dakota. The storm killed tens of thousands of head of livestock.
The two-day storm dumped up to 48 inches of snow primarily on a dozen west central and northwestern counties.
The South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association, South Dakota Stockgrowers Association and South Dakota Sheep Growers Association have partnered with the Black Hills Area Community Foundation to raise about $400,000 from around the country.
AgChat and Tyson Foods partnered and raised $50,000 in only a few hours. AgChat also established a unified campaign at its foundation’s giving site. Donations can also be made at giveblackhills.org.
