Man arrested after threatening to shoot Sparta Police

Early Monday morning the Monroe County Communications Center was notified of a man making threats of opening fire in the Sparta Police Department. Matthew Ames, 24 of Sparta was in the Hangout Bar telling people he had a gun and intended on shooting up the Sparta Police Department. The caller claimed to have seen the gun and indicated that Ames appeared intoxicated.  Officers located Ames standing outside the bar and saw a handgun concealed in his waistband.

Ames showed obvious signs of intoxication and was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Carrying a Handgun where Alcohol is Sold/Consumed, and Operate a Firearm while Intoxicated.
