Update: Vernon County Sheriff John B. Spears reports a two vehicle head-on collision that occurred, resulting in a fatality, the accident occurred on Wednesday morning, October 16th, 2013 at approximately 8:35am in the Town of Christiana, between Westby and Cashton, in Vernon County.
Skyler W. Mickelson age 26, of Cashton, Wisconsin was operating a mid-size sport-utility vehicle North on State Highway 27 when he crossed the centerline and struck a straight truck head-on, in the South-bound lane. The straight truck was being operated by a Daryl J. Von Glahn, age 48 of Sparta, Wisconsin, and was traveling South on State Highway 27. There were no other occupants in either of the vehicles. Skylar Mickelson was ejected from his vehicle, and was not wearing a seatbelt. Airbags were deployed. The driver of the straight truck, Daryl J. Von Glahn was wearing a seatbelt, but no airbags deployed.
Skylar W. Mickelson died as a result of the accident, and was pronounced dead by the Vernon County Coroner’s Office at the scene. Daryl J. Von Glahn was injured and transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital by Tri- State Ambulance.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Westby-Christiana Fire Department and First Responders, Cashton First Responders, Westby Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Tri-State Ambulance, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Cashton Police Department and the Vernon County Highway Department.
The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the Vernon County Coroner’s Office. This crash marks the 4th traffic fatality for 2013 in Vernon County.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s office has not released the name of the individual killed in a two vehicle crash between Cashton and Westby this morning around 8:30.
Sheriff John Spears said the accident happened when a vehicle heading north near Rudie Road on Hwy 27 crossed the center line and struck an oncoming semi. The driver of the northbound car was killed and the driver of the truck received minor injuries. The names of the individuals involved have not been released been released pending notification of family.
State Hwy. 27 was closed for most of the morning while emergency personnel attended to those injured and cleaned up the wreckage.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the exact cause of that accident along with the Wisconsin State Patrol
