DAM CHALLENGE CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER
Race Update (10/4 at 9 am): With a shared sense of sadness, we have to announce that the 11th Annual Dam Challenge is cancelled without a reschedule date due to weather. Safety of our racers, volunteers, and staff is paramount and in a remote setting we simply cannot take the risk. Racers will be sent details via email. Hope to see everyone here on a sunny day – October 4, 2014.
Saturday morning about 500 brave men and women will take part in the 11th annual Kickapoo Reserve Dam Challenge Triathalon. The 24 mile journey will take the participants through the rugged hills of southwestern Wisconsin’s rural countryside, and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve.
Participants will start at 9:00am for the competitive class, and 10:00am for the Citizen Class racers. Participants are also broken down into age and gender groups as well. There are under 18, 18-39, 40-55, 56-69, and 70+.
The 24 mile race will start with kayaking where triathalete’s will kayak down the Kickapoo river for 7 grueling miles along rock out-croppings, and through diverse vegetation. After grueling through the water the participants give their arms a rest and go to work on a 14 mile bicycle ride through the hilly driftless area. The route takes them through the valleys and over the ridge, in one of Wisconsin’s most scenic rural landscapes. After the ups and downs of the grueling bicycle race the last stretch comes in the form of a 3 mile trail run. This run will take the triathalete’s through the Kickapoo Valley Reserve.
There will be awards given out at the end of the race. The categories include: Individual Racer-Tandem Boat, for someone who competes in all three legs of the race and accrues the best individual time, they get to paddle the boat with another person. Individual Racer-Solo Boat, for someone who participates in all three legs, and does not have a partner in their boat, and open 2 and 4 person relay teams.
Due to weather the Dam Challenge has been cancelled with no makeup date scheduled at this time.
