Allamakee County, IA – Postville Iowa Fire Chief Jeffrey Bohr said a fire at a pole barn caused over $35,000 in damage when the barn and over 90 round bales were completely destroyed.
Bohr said firecrews were called to the scene Wednesday morning and when they arrived the barn was already fully engulfed in flames and then went to work preventing the fire from spreading to a nearby cattle storage building. Mutual aide was provided by the Frankville and Luana Fire Departments in the form of manpower and tanker trucks.
Bohr goes on to say the firefighters were on the scene for seven hours and assisted a local construction company that removed the round bales and buried them. Bohr said it is believed the cause of the fire is self combustion of the stacked hay in the barn.
