Madison will become the center of the dairy industry this week, as the World Dairy Expo gets underway. State Ag Secretary Ben Brancel says they expect tens of thousands of visitors from across the country and around the world to turn up for the event, which runs Tuesday through Sunday at
Madison’s Alliant Energy Center.
Brancel says the event has changed a lot over the years. It started in 1967 with just a few exhibitors excited about improving the ability of producers to showcase their livestock. Since then, it has grown to a facility that has about 2,400 animals on the grounds. It also attracts vendors from around the world who want to show their products to the dairy industry.
Last year’s Expo drew an estimated 70,000 people from 95 countries and had an economic impact in the state of about $50 million.
