(Update) Identity released of 19-year-old killed in a crash on US 61 near Clayton

According to investigators the 19-year-old man killed in a car crash in Crawford County last week was Ryan T. Watters of rural Gays Mills.


Previous story 

On Wednesday, September 18th around 8:45pm the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a two vehicle crash on Hwy 61 in the township of Clayton. A 19 year old man from Gays Mills was driving westbound on Cty. Rd X and while turning onto US 61 was struck by another vehicle. That other vehicle a 2000 Ford F-350 driven by Daniel Sandvick, 49 of Desoto was also towing a 1990 Dodge truck and heading North on US 61 when it struck the drivers side of a 1992 Chevy S-10 being driven by the Gays Mills man.

Both vehicles then became engulf in flames and entered the southbound lane striking the guardrail for several feet. The vehicles then continued down the roadway and came to a stop in the middle of US Highway 61. US Highway 61 was closed for approximately 4 1/2 hours to reconstruct the accident.

Sandvick and Suiter were transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and were later released. The 19 year old male suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene..

Assisting at the scene were the Gays Mills Fire Department, Soldiers Grove Fire Department, North Crawford Rescue, Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction, Bob’s Towing, Crawford County Coroner Joe Morovits, Crawford County Highway Department, and Digger Dons. Viroqua Police Department and Vernon County Sheriff’s Department also assisted.

This accident currently remains under investigation at this time.
