Vernon County Sheriff John B. Spears reports a single- vehicle crash occurred, resulting in a death, Saturday afternoon, September 7, 2013 at approximately 3:30 PM in the Town of Kickapoo, east of Readstown.
Sharon K. Grim, age 70, of rural Viola, WI was operating a mid-size sport-utility vehicle northwest on US Highway 14, travelling down the “Sugar Grove Hill.” The Grim vehicle gradually traveled off the right side of the highway on a curve to the left, just southeast of Moore Road. The vehicle traveled several hundred feet in the ditch line, parallel to the highway. Upon impact with an embankment, the vehicle became airborne, overturned and the operator was ejected. The vehicle came to rest upright, pinning Grim between the lower portion of the vehicle and the embankment. It does not appear that Grim was wearing a seat belt. The Viola and Readstown Fire Department extricated Sharon Grim from the wreckage and she was flown by Med Link Air to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 5:45 PM.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Readstown Fire Department, Readstown Ambulance, Viola Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance, and Med Link Air. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the Vernon County Coroner’s Office. This crash marks the third 2013 traffic fatality in Vernon County.
