Two men rescued from icy Mississippi River in PDC

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at approximately 9:50 a.m. the Sheriff’s Department was notified of a boating accident north of the North Ambro Boat Landing in the Township of Prairie du Chien, WI. on the Mississippi River.

According to the information received; Richard Noel age 66 of Prairie du Chien, WI was operating a 14 ft. Jon Boat accompanied by passenger; Howard Hollenbech age 61 of Prairie du Chien, WI. when the boat overturned and ejected both occupants.

A rescue operation was performed by use of an air boat which resulted in Noel and Hollenbech successfully being pulled from the icy water. Noel and Hollenbech were transported by Interstate EMS to Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital for hypothermia. Both are expected to make a full recovery.

Assisting at the scene was Bridgeport Fire Department, Bridgeport First Responders, Bagley Fire Department, Lancaster Fire Department, Wauzeka Fire Department, Grant County Tech Rescue, Interstate EMS, Crawford County Emergency Management, Wisconsin DNR, air boat owner/operator Kim Henkes, and an unidentified air boat owner/operator.

The accident currently remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.
