Jefson said Bergum is a former employee of the Country Club and it is believed he gained access to the clubhouse and safe through a window. Viroqua Police previously reported that cash bags were removed from a safe and were discovered missing when employees reported for work on Monday August 12. When asked how Bergum gained access to the safe Jefson said being a former employee Bergum had knowledge of the “closing routine and how employees would have access to the safe.”

Jefson went on to say three bank bags have been recovered and of the approximately $7,000 stolen about $4,900 had been recovered.
