On September 28, the Potosi Brewery will be hosting an annual Bike Tour, 5K, and 10K Walk/Run to benefit the Potosi Foundation, the Southwest Tech Scholarship Fund, and the UW Platteville Community Scholarship Program. The Brewery encourages local business to welcome participants through signage and daily specials.
“This could be the best Saturday ever for local businesses,” stated event organizer Frances Rivoire. “We strongly encourage all local businesses to put out signs, banners, and balloons at 7:30 am to let the riders know what you have to offer. The Bike Tour is not a race and riders enjoy stopping to visit the local treasures of Southwest Wisconsin. Make it fun for them and it will generate good business for you.”
Whispering Bluffs Winery in Potosi will be offering coffee for participants at 5:30 am and Catfish Bob’s will welcome riders back to Potosi toward the end of the bike route. The Brewery encourages individuals to visit Spring Valley Meats, Whispers & Time, Ma’s Bakery, and Taft’s Mill Pottery Gallery in Bloomington. Whispers & Time offers uniques, antiques, and wines while Taft’s Mill Pottery is a restored 1852 stone mill once described as “the best equipped merchant and custom mill in the west”. A Yelp visitor shared this statement about Ma’s Bakery, “This might be the coolest restaurant in North America.” They also encourage stopping at the Town Pump for a delicious meal and ice cream and Janet’s Flowers for You for gifts, baskets, and flowers.
Both events will begin at Holiday Gardens in Potosi at 8 am. All are welcome and no minimum distance is required. The Brewery encourages participants of all ages and abilities to participate. The registration fee for the Bike Tour is $55 with discounts given for families and tandem riders. The Walk/Run registration fee is $30 per person. Both registration fees include lunch and entertainment by the band Beat ’n Path at Holiday Gardens until 3 pm. Packet pick up and late registration is available on September 27 from 5-7 pm or on the day of the event from 5:30am-noon at Holiday Gardens.
