Sparta man in custody after high speed chase

51-year- old Brian L. Barnnon is in custody after allegedly stealing a car and taking authorities in two counties on a high speed chase on Saturday.

At 9:03 pm on August 31st, Monroe County Dispatch was advised that Jackson County had a vehicle stopped that had been reported stolen out of the city of Sparta. The suspect vehicle then took off on Jackson County Officers and a high speed chase ensued with speeds in excess of 100 mph. At times the suspect vehicle was travelling in the wrong lane of traffic.

The chase entered into Monroe County and Monroe County Deputies joined the chase. Deputy’s and Wisconsin State Troopers deployed spikes just north of the City of Sparta and the suspect vehicle went into the ditch. The suspect, Brian L. Brannon, age 51 of Sparta was taken into custody.

The Sheriff’s department has referred Brannon to the Monroe County District
attorney’s office on possible charges of operating a Motor vehicle without owner’s consent, reckless endangering safety, fleeing and operating motor vehicle while intoxicated 8th offense.

Brannon is being held in the Monroe County Jail pending a court
appearance on Tuesday September 3rd.

The incident continues to be investigated by Monroe County Sheriff’s
Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Sparta Police
Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
