MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democratic state Rep. Tamara Grigsby of Milwaukee has been moved out of intensive care and is able to breathe and communicate on

her own.

Her spokesman Kevin Benish said Tuesday that tests indicate the 37-year-old has not suffered any brain damage but doctors are working to address complications related to her liver and kidneys.

Benish says Grigbsy had been treated for cancer but it’s not clear if the ailment that put her into intensive care was related to that, treatments for that disease or a pre-existing condition that may have been exacerbated by the cancer or its treatment.

Grigsby was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 18 and moved out of intensive care on Thursday.

She was elected in 2004 and is a member of the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee.
