When the Packers selected Jermichael Finley in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft, he was plenty talented, but he had a lot of growing up to do.

Entering his 6th NFL season, Finley ranks No. 3 in franchise history for the most career receiving yards by a tight end with 2,485 yards and 4th in team history for most receptions by a tight end (198).  He needs just 110 yards to move past No. 2 Ron Kramer (2,594) and five catches to move past No. 3 Ed West (202).

His work ethic has never come into question.  His immaturity has.

Finley has struggled to be on the same page as his quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  He’s called out the former MVP on occasion and has never been shy about letting his opinion be known.  Finley has been active member of social media and has shared his thoughts with the public in that forum as well.

He came to the NFL early and entered as a 21-year-old out of the University of Texas.  There’s no question there was going to be a growing up period.  Five years later and it appears that the lightbulb has finally gone on.

Finley’s always been a hard worker and this season is no acception.  But the most noticeable thing about Finley, he appears to have matured to an acceptable level and perhaps even beyond.

He’s making unbelievable plays on the practice field and in games.  He had 4 catches for 78 yards in limited time in the 19-7 win over the Rams last week.

Finley signed a 1-year contract with the Packers during the offseason and he looks like he’s ready to have a huge year offensively.  If that happens, the Packers may be forced to open the vault to sign him to a long-term deal.
