OAKDALE, Wis. — Sheriff’s deputies say a man riding an electric scooter was struck while crossing a highway in Monroe County.

Authorities say Warren Bennett of Oakdale suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by a car on Hwy. 12/16 Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators say a rural Sparta woman who struck Bennett was looking in her rearview mirror at a vehicle that was approaching her from behind at a high rate of speed and didn’t see the victim until it was too late.

The victim was taken to Tomah Memorial Hospital. There’s no immediate word on his condition.
