Monroe County Sheriff Peter Quirin reports a motor vehicle crash that resulted in injuries to two parties. The crash occurred at about 4:45 pm on August 16th, 2014 on Basswood Rd approximately one half mile west of State Hwy 27 in the town of Little Falls. Wesley E. Boyles,  25, of Black River Falls was driving west on Basswood Rd. when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road. His pickup truck hit a culvert which caused the vehicle to roll. The vehicle rolled 1 and ½ times ejecting both Boyles and his passenger Jacob M. Craig, 24, of rural Sparta. When officers arrived on scene they found Craig about 25 feet from the vehicle in the ditch line. Boyles was found pinned under the vehicle. Both Craig and Boyles where transported by med flight to Gundersen Hospital with critical injuries. Both speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Department at the scene were the Cataract First Responders, Sparta Area Ambulance Service, Sparta Area Fire District, Gundersen Med-Flight, Mayo Med-Flight, Monroe County 911 Center and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
