State appeals court rules against raw milk sellers

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A state appeals court has ruled against a pair of raw milk producers.

The 4th District Court of Appeals on Thursday sided with the state in the consolidated cases brought by dairy farms in Walworth and Calumet counties.

In the first case, the court agreed with state regulators that Mark and Petra Zinniker of Walworth County were operating a dairy farm without the required state license. Because of that, the court did not address the issue of whether their distribution of raw milk was legal.

In the second case, the appeals court said the operators of GrassWay Organics Farm Store in New Holstein needed a retail license to sell milk to members of an association who pay a fee to buy from the store.
