77-year-old man from Buffalo MN killed in Monroe County crash

Monroe County Sheriff Pete Quirin reports a 77-year old man from Bullao MN was killed in a crash in Monroe County on Saturday. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says Roger Beyer of Buffalo was driving on State Hwy 21 just before  3:30 pm when he crossed the center line into the path of a vehicle driven by 58-year-old Daniel Abts of La Crosse. Abts, who was pulling a keystone travel trailer and was able to avoid the Beyer vehicle, went into the east bound ditch. The Beyer vehicle then struck a another vehicle, driven by 30 year old Michael Abts of La Crosse, head on.

Beyer was pronounced dead at the scene. Abts was transported to Gundersen hospital by Med-Link Air. A passenger in the Beyer vehicle, a 10-year-old child, was transported to Tomah Memorial hospital by Tomah ambulance and later transferred to Gundersen Hospital in critical condition. At this time no further information will be released pending notification of Family.

Assisting at the scene was the Wisconsin State Patrol, Juneau Co. Sheriff’s Department, Oakdale Fire Department, Oakdale First responders, Tomah Rescue Techs, Tomah Area Ambulance service, Med-Link Air, Monroe County Hwy Department, Monroe Co. Medical Examiners office and the Monroe County 911 center.
