State Senator Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) was honored recently by the
Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) with a “WCA Outstanding Legislator Award” for her work on behalf of county government during the 2013-2014 Legislative Session.
“As a member of the Joint Committee on Finance, Senator Shilling has been a real supporter of county issues this past legislative session,” said WCA Executive Director Mark D. O’Connell. “In addition to her work on this important committee, she also supported additional income maintenance funding for northern and western consortia, as well as served as chair of the WCA County Action Network (CAN).”
The “WCA Outstanding Legislator Award” is handed out biennially to a select group of legislators who have represented county interests in both the legislature and in their districts. These legislators have demonstrated leadership for counties on key issues, legislation and the state budget.
O’Connell continued, “As a former county official, Senator Shilling understands county issues from direct experience and has continued to be a tremendous leader on county issues in her role as senator. We are proud to present her with this ‘WCA Outstanding Legislator Award’ and look forward to working with her in the years ahead.”
In addition, Nathan Houdek of Senator Shilling’s Office was the recipient of a “WCA Outstanding Legislative Staff Award” for his work with the WCA Government Affairs staff on legislation throughout the session.
WCA represents the interests of county government both on the state and federal levels and is located in Madison, Wisconsin. For more information, visit www.wicounties.org.
