Prairie du Chien man faces numerous charges after hit-and-run

A 33-year-old Prairie du Chien man is facing a number of charges following a hit-and-run accident that knocked down a power pole Friday.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department says at approximately 2 a.m on Friday they received a report of a one vehicle crash on E. Lapointe St. at State Highway 18 in the Township of Bridgeport. The caller stated that a vehicle struck a light pole and knocked it over into the roadway. The light pole was blocking the south turning lane.

When deputies arrived on scene the operator of of the vehicle had already left the scene of the accident. The driver was found to be Shane R. Kellogg, age 33, of Prairie Du Chien. Deputies made contact with Kellogg at his residence. Investigators say Kellogg was driving East on E. Lapointe St. and was operating at a high rate of speed. Kellogg was unable to negotiate a turn and locked the brakes up. Kellogg’s vehicle slid for approximately 50 ft, during this time the vehicle went over the curb on the south side of the road. The vehicle struck a road sign, utility pole and a stop light. The vehicle came to a stop after striking the stop light. The vehicle had severe damage and was towed from the scene.

Kellogg was cited for Operating while Under the Influence 2nd offense, No Insurance, Failure to Notify Police of an Accident, Hit and Run Property Adjacent to the Highway, Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed and Disorderly Conduct.

Assisting at the scene was the Prairie du Chien Police Department, Bob’s Towing, Alliant Energy and the Prairie Du Chien Street Department.
