SPARTA, Wis.  A Sparta man is lucky to be alive after he was pinned under his own van submerged in Perch Lake in Memorial Park.

Sparta Police said they were called shortly after 3 p.m. Monday to the park on a report of a man trapped in the water. When they arrived at the lake, police noticed a vehicle in the water and a male  pinned under the front end of the vehicle.  Police said the man was conscious and able to keep his head above water. After a short time, the vehicle was removed from the lake along with the man.  He was then transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and Mayo Clinic Health System said he was released. The man was identified as Bradley Stalsberg, 27, from Sparta.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was parked unoccupied near the top of an incline leading down to Perch Lake.  Stalsberg was sitting near the lake in front of the vehicle when the vehicle started to roll forward into the water pinning Stalsberg.
