OCONTO, Wis. (AP) – A prosecutor says no criminal charges will be filed against the teen who started a fire that caused $5 million damage to Oconto High School.
Investigators say the 16-year-old student started the fire in April by tossing a cigarette into a bathroom garbage can. Classes were held at the middle school for several weeks while the school was repaired.
Oconto County District Attorney Ed Burke tells WLUK-TV he concluded that he couldn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime was committed.
Police investigators determined the fire wasn’t intentionally set. Chief Dan Ault says no municipal citations were issued either.
