According the Vernon County Crime Stoppers Bingenheimer has now been arrested.

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a 31-year-old man from Viroqua that is wanted for allegedly assaulting another man with a hammer in the town of Franklin on Friday afternoon.

Accoding to the sheriff’s office they received a report of a domestic-abuse related assault just after noon on Friday. The Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call from a female reporting that a male struck another male in the head, with a hammer at a mobile home. After deputies arrived the victim was identified as Thomas G. Helgerson, 34, of Green Acres Road, rural Viroqua. Helgerson was transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare in Viroqua, by Tri-State Ambulance  and was treated for head injuries and he is expected to be released today.

Witnesses identified the assailant as Joseph Wayne Bingenheimer, 31, from the same address as the victim. Bingenheimer was last seen by witnesses on foot running into a wooded area. Bingenheimer is a Caucasian male about 5’8” tall, weighs about 190 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes. Bingenheimer was last seen wearing a brown colored Corona T-Shirt, blue jeans, and brown shoes.

Both Sheriff K-9’s and the Combined Tactical Team were utilized but after an extensive search of the area, Bingenheimer was not found. Although Sheriff Spears does not feel the public is in any danger, the sheriif’s office s advising people not to approach Bingenheimer and call 9-1-1 or local law enforcement if anyone has information on his whereabouts.

The Sheriff’s Office says if you know Joseph’ s whereabouts, please submit a tip and you will remain anonymous.
